Hartford, CT – Republicans nationwide have already rolled back Roe, and now the GOP is working to outlaw abortion nationwide. We just have to look at Bob’s record to know who he really stands with:
At a recent forum, Bob Stefanowski promoted a 12 week abotion ban, saying “I think abortion should be limited to the first trimester.” His proposal would be more restrictive than laws passed in states that have banned abortion entirely post-Roe and goes even further than the national ban recently introduced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. Right-wing groups are doing backflips over Stefanowski’s candidacy. Extreme anti-abortion leaders say that Bob Stefanowski has “heartened pro-life voters.” [CT Mirror, 5/12/22]
Stefanowski has given a maximum donation to Leora Levy, who is virulently anti-choice, and Stefanowski planned on fundraising with RGA co-chair Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, who supports a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. [Hartford Courant, 6/22/22; CT Mirror, 6/13/22]
Bob Stefanowski has refused to say whether he would have signed the “safe harbor” law signed by Gov. Lamont, which protects reproductive rights statewide. [CT Mirror, 5/10/22]
Stefanowski even acknowledged his own internal polling revealed he has a problem with women voters. [CT Post, 10/3/22]
The GOP nationwide is working to outlaw abortion in all 50 states, and Stefanowski’s campaign is supported by Sean Fieler, a leader in the anti-choice movement. Fieler has promised to spend more than $1 million in support of Stefanowski’s run for Governor. Fieler has also spent “many millions of dollars to fund…anti-birth control and anti-abortion movements.” [Ct Mirror, 4/12/22; The Day, Collins Column, 4/16/22]
When Stefanowski had a chance to speak out against anti-abortion Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, he “took a pass” on answering during 2018 debate. [CT Dems, 9/27/18]
Stefanowski gave Trump an “A” grade for his Presidential performance in a July 2018 debate, even after the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the US Supreme Court and the nomination of Kavanaugh, both of whom voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. [Hartford Courant, 7/13/18; NBC News, 4/7/17; American Bar Association, Accessed 9/19/22; NPR, 6/24/22]
