Hartford, CT – Gov. Lamont has continued Connecticut’s progress in getting illegal guns off our streets.
Gov Lamont has signed multiple pieces of legislation strengthening gun control laws, “keeping momentum in a movement to end gun violence in the state”. The measures include:
An expansion of the state’s “Red Flag” law. [NBC CT, 6/14/22]
Signing legislation that bans untraceable “ghost guns” to get illegal guns off the street. [CT Mirror, 6/7/19]
Expanding the state’s firearm storage requirements in motor vehicles, making it one of fewer than 10 states that has a vehicle safe storage law despite statistics showing most gun thefts are from owners who leave their guns unsecured in their homes or vehicles. [CT Mirror, 6/7/19]
Jeremy Stein, executive director of Connecticut Against Gun Violence said, “These [stolen] guns end up killing people and being used in the commission of crimes. A gun was stolen from an unlocked car in Glastonbury and was used to shoot a Hartford 10-year-old in the head.” [CT Mirror, 6/7/19]
