Hartford, CT – On Friday, CT Mirror’s Mark Pazniokas exposed Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski and his allies’ most recent stunt to taint the airwaves with misinformation and extremism.
Parents Against Stupid Stuff, a Super PAC funded by notorious ultraconservative anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ donor Sean Fieler, “with the goal of weaponizing elements of the education culture wars on behalf of the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Bob Stefanowski,” is scheduled to shoot a new ad mischaracterizing health education across the state.
The ad’s lies punctuate Stefanowski’s flailing attempt to mislead Connecticut– masquerading as a moderate despite receiving support from radical conservatives across the country.
In addition to Fieler, Peter Wolfgang, an anti-abortion champion and President of the Family Institute of Connecticut, which regularly attacks the rights of women and the LGBTQ community has expressed ardent support for Stefanowski, claiming his candidacy has heartened pro-life voters. The former payday loan CEO was scheduled to fundraise with Nebraska’s radical Governor, Pete Ricketts, even after Ricketts went to court to keep his state’s ban on same-sex marriage and applauded the Texas SB-8 abortion ban, which did not have exceptions for rape or incest.
“Fieler’s divisive politics have no place in Connecticut, and Bob should immediately denounce his support,” said Jake Lewis, Lamont campaign spokesman. “This group is nothing more than a smokescreen for Fieler’s anti-choice anti-LGBTQ+ agenda as he tries to elect a candidate who will support his extreme policies.”
Stefanowski can continue pretending he’s a changed man, but the money trail reveals his extremist intentions with the governorship.
