Lamont on Primary Night: Believe in Connecticut

Ned Lamont, the state party’s endorsed candidate for Governor, is set to lead the Democratic ticket in November after winning an overwhelming majority of the vote Tuesday during the gubernatorial Primary Election.

He released the following statement on the results:

“I’m running for Governor because I believe in Connecticut. I believe we can get moving again, grow our economy, create jobs and fix our budget crisis. But we need new leadership at the top and we need to dramatically change how we do business. I believe I’m the person who can bring that change to Hartford.

“Our kids are leaving for opportunities outside our state, and businesses are fleeing too. We’re facing a budget crisis that affects all of us. It was decades of governors, both Democrat and Republican, that put us in this bind, and today, our state is heading in the wrong direction as a result. No one person can fix it overnight and we can’t take the easy way out. But every Connecticut resident should know this: I’m going to be honest, I’m going to listen and I’m going to bring people together to get things done. I’m not running to be re-elected or move up the political ladder. I’m running for governor because we need a leader who will work collaboratively to address Connecticut’s challenges.

“This is the most important election of our lifetimes, and the contrast has never been greater. So often we hear from the GOP that if we take away people’s healthcare, shred the safety net, repeal our gun laws and roll back rights for women that Connecticut will be great again. I have a different vision for the state. I believe we can build a 21st-century Connecticut – and that’s what I will do as Governor.”
